Default Experience and Lvling

Perhaps this is already a post or an idea, but I didn't find it, so I'm posting it here:

I think Factions really dropped the ball on lvling and experience. By the time you get off the island, you're already lvl 14-16 and you've barely started the game. It's as though the designers made Factions solely for those who wanted to PvP. By the time you're at Kaening, experience is completely arbitrary.

"Here, here is 10,000 exp, 375 gold and an Imperial Commendation for helping me defeat these bad guys."

It might as well be 50,000 or a million. Once you're lvl 20, the only reason to keep lvling is for skills acquisition. Prophecies was much better about this.

Secondly: Go back to giving skills out as a reward for completing quests. I think it's boring that I can essentially buy all my skills. What fun is that? Yes, I like having access to skills early on but that should be part of the challenge.

Hopefully, Nightfall is much more similiar to Prophecies as opposed to Factions. Prophecies was much more fun to play as PvE.

the reason as to why the quick leveling is not because of that.

you wanted that factions had been like prophecies? imagine the lots of lvl 2os coming from tyria, having half the content being too easy for them.

i like it the fast leveling, i can get my canthan born characters ready for the lvl 20 action fast enough.

and about skills being given by quests, i preffer the model we have with factions. that way i can read the skill description and think of a build ahead of time.

"oh joys, i do this quest and get two skills that i wont be using anytime soon if its that ill be using it"

In factions there were hrdes of level 20s coming from tyria. If there was a slow porgression, they would have just stomped the snot out of everything and whined that Factions was too easy.

I do miss getting skills from quests, but I prefer the model of choosing your own skills.cA factions quests gives 2-3k experience and 200-500 gold. Skills cost 15,000 exp for a skill point and 1 plat for most people. They could have amped it up a bit so we don't suffer form skill point shortage so badly.

Nightfall will level up as fast or even faster as they will be serving level 20 people from 2 chapters instead of only one.

the new chapters are designed for mostly level 20 content according to a post from Anet (at least 80 %)

If you play a game such as WoW then gaining levels is a big deal. One level can seperate you from a level below you vastly. In Guild Wars, is isn't about levels or items, it is about strategy and team work. So exp isn't a bit deal for me. I don't see level 20 Warriors, Monks and Necromacers, I just see Warriors, Monks and Necromancers.

I do however like that they trained your character with skills for rewards in Prophecies better then having to fork out tons of money to aquire skills as in Factions. I liked that, when you read a quest reward you thought: "Woah, I wonder what 'Dark Pact' does, or 'Meteor' does". Then you are excited to recieve your new skills and then see if you can work them into your build.

Imagine a bigger continent where new arivals didnt necessarily arrive at the begining of the campaign.

I hated the faster leveling of GW:F, it put alot of new players, and old players playing new classes stupidly, up to a high level before they knew how to play.

Personally I fell right into playing Assassin and Ritu, they clicked as classes for me, and I play them exceptionally well, but becasue everybody hit level 20 after a couple of hours, without a real challenge, then the bad assassin players made it impossible for decent 'sins to get a party anywhere.

Even though we have seen a host of excelent examples of paragon and Dervish players, they would be people who try to play like they did at the PvP weekend, or new players playing for the first time, and if it wasnt for the fact that nobody can call Ds or Ps "Fanboys" like with the Naruto hate, they could easily develope a bad rep as well.

Personally I would prefer a large open continent like Propheices, possibly will more diverging possible storylines, rather than "OK, I choose to be Kurzick 'rar rar rar, die Luxon scum....oh no, big dragon, team up and, hey your not too bad"

I would like to see leveling slowed to a similar rate to Propheices, as id much rather play like that. And I would like to see new visitors to the continent arriving around the mid point of the story.

Content is content; if even a good percentage of the content of the next chapter is pre-lvl20, no matter how much post-lvl20 content there is, people will complain about the game being too quick/easy.

People would also complain about having to run their lvl20 characters backwards through progressively easier areas in order to get 100% mission completion / map exploration.
